Ed è arrivato il momento di partire. Ero preparata. Pronta. Quasi in attesa.

Poi rapidamente nuove relazioni, nuove amicizie, mani tese.
The End
And the time has come to leave. I was prepared. Ready. Almost waiting for it. And then what happened? All of a sudden, I wanted to stop time, rewind the film, start all over again.
Three years ago, on a warm late September day, Northvolt unveiled its plans for expansion in North America, and at the same time, we were packing up our lives for another big leap.
Our first move abroad without the kids, but it didn’t scare me.
Nothing scared me. There was never a moment when I asked myself, “Why am I doing this?” I never once thought that this was one country too many. I was bold, perhaps, and confident in my ability to adapt. Even the thought of cold temperatures colder than anything I had experienced in Sweden didn’t make me hesitate.
It was the two of us, Macaron, and the usual container filled with everything that makes a place feel like home.
I landed with my cat slung over my shoulder and a huge desire to discover everything. I was immediately welcomed with open arms by new friends. The expat world is a web of connections, and almost immediately you have a friend of a friend who knows someone who lives exactly where you are going. And that helps enormously.
Then, very quickly, new relationships, new friendships, helping hands.
In no time, practically from the very beginning, I was happy. And that wasn’t a given, because competing with Stockholm was no small thing. I was coming from a place where I had left a piece of my heart, so my new world had to live up to it. It didn’t disappoint me.
These were not easy years, quite the opposite. Montreal welcomed us with open arms and then treated us a little roughly. But we stayed on our feet and, at least for me, the experience has been unforgettable.
I’m leaving my heart in this dirty, vibrant city. I’m leaving a piece of myself behind, and rebuilding won’t be easy.
There were tears as I closed the door of our home. A lump in my throat as my taxi raced towards the airport. So much wanting to cry with every hug during those final days. Exhaustion didn’t help either. Emptying a 300-square-meter home leaves its mark, and moving yet again always makes you wonder whether this might finally be one move too many.
I’m flying, I’m leaving, I’m going, and right now, I would genuinely turn back time and start these past three years all over again. I would open the door of Waverly for the first time, already knowing that it would become a place close to my heart. I would give myself just a little more time with that sea of people I came to love here.
But you can’t…
So, like a good little soldier, I have to turn the page and write a new story. I’m struggling to find the words, and the plot is still unclear. I still have doubts, even though I try to pretend I don’t. I keep telling myself that I have no choice, and perhaps that is exactly why I’m struggling. For the first time, I didn’t choose. And that changes everything…
P.S. I’ll keep talking to you about Montreal. I still have so much to write…
