Northvolt, ieri, oggi, domani.

English translation follows

Northvolt: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

These past months have been complex, filled with sadness, surprise, a bit of anger, but also deep satisfaction and a sense of pride.
On March 7, 2017, I was in Stockholm for the launch of Northvolt.
On March 13, 2025, they handed the company over to an administrator.
And on August 7, an American company acquired what was left, Sweden and Germany. Poland and California had already been sold off, while further developments are awaited for Canada.

In between, from 2017, or rather, 2016, an absolutely extraordinary human and industrial adventure unfolded.
What they did, no one in Europe had ever tried before. And more importantly, no one had ever gotten that far or that close to real success.
For years, everyone was talking about them, they filled the pages of every newspaper. When the wind is at your back, everyone’s ready to follow, to praise.
They were the shining example, not just for Sweden, but for Europe and the entire Western world.

Then came a rougher patch for the industry. Delays in electric vehicles, headwinds, slower funding, complicated months.
Many steps backward. Projects put on hold. But always a force, a push, an endless energy that only those who truly want to change the world can muster.
Many continued to root for them.
Plenty hoped they would fail. That’s how the world works, there are always those who resist progress. Always those who can’t celebrate others’ success, secretly hoping someone else crashes and burns.

But even in difficulty and setbacks lies the strength of projects that defy convention.
Only those who take big risks, who throw themselves into grand industrial ventures, run the risk of failure.
But in truth, it’s never really a failure, because even if the final goal isn’t reached, the journey itself is real and rich.
And you learn just as much from falling off the horse as you do from crossing the finish line.

These past months have felt strange, filled with surprise and a touch of anger.
But also months where I’ve become more and more convinced that the lessons, the example, and the legacy will last forever.
We never stopped looking forward. And with this acquisition, the future is not just out there, it’s real. It’s tangible.

For us, these were nine years of an extraordinary adventure, also a family one.
We were always, as always, a team, whether everything was going smoothly, or, more often, with the wind in our faces. That’s our strength.
Now we take a breath, and keep moving forward with the same energy, because the drive is still there.

I wouldn’t change a thing about these nine years of unconditional support for my husband and for a project that became a part of us.
The joy, the enthusiasm, the stress, all of it blended together and carried us through.
It was so intense to witness it come to life from day zero onwards, to feel it vibrate, to notice every detail, that even if the end of the story isn’t what we had hoped for, or not in every line, the pages we wrote will remain. And what pages they are!

  1. Be’, che dire. Complimenti a te e a tuo marito! Posso solo immaginare l’emozione.
